That's how just some of our readers and critics define us. For 15 years, Whole Terrain has been exploring ecological and social issues from the unique perspective of environmental practitioners. A nationally acclaimed literary journal published by the Antioch University New England, Whole Terrain is a place where new and established writers, poets and artists come together with environmental professionals and students and faculty from around the world to examine such diverse themes as “Creative Collaborations, ” “Risk,” “Serious Play,” “Research as Real Work,” and “Surplus and Scarcity.”

Widely recognized for its forward-thinking contribution to nature literacy and environmental awareness, over the years Whole Terrain has attracted writers such as David Brower, Father Thomas Berry, Ann Zwinger, Rick Bass, John Elder, Gary Paul Nabhan, Mitch Thomashow and Terry Tempest Williams, to name just a few. Not limited to established authors, Whole Terrain welcomes new voices as well. What began as a student internship in the Environmental Studies Department of Antioch University New England has grown into a publication with over 1,500 recipients. Whole Terrain is also distributed to an extensive national network of environmental organizations, hundreds of school and university libraries, and dozens of bookstores.
